The extend family of technologies features interoperability with Web services in Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) or Microsoft .NET technologies; interoperability with wireless communication devices; the ability to read, process, and write XML data; data source flexibility to relational database management systems (RDBMS), open database connectivity (ODBC), and many indexed sequential access method (ISAM) file systems; and embedded support for transaction management.
