How to Tell if a Year 2000 Kit has been Installed

How can you tell if a Year 2000 kit (or any other kit) is already installed on your OpenVMS system? Just follow these steps:

  1. First, note the names of the kits that are necessary for your system. Remember to also check for layered product kits, such as  DECwindows MotifDCE, and

    NOTE: Some non-English versions of OpenVMS may require installing multiple kits.

  2. On an Alpha machine, look in SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL.HISTORY for a record of the installation of the Year 2000 kit.

    NOTE: There is currently no equivalent to VMSINSTAL.HISTORY on a VAX.

  3. On both VAX and Alpha systems, you can look for a Year 2000 release notes file in SYS$HELP:. For example:

    $ DIR SYS$HELP:*Y2K*.RELEASE_NOTES

    If you find this file, the kit has likely been installed.
