HP is pleased to provide you with Version 2.1-1, a new
HP-supported, customer release version
of the HP Secure Web Server for OpenVMS (based on Apache).
The Secure Web Server (SWS) is part of the Web Server Suite for OpenVMS, which also
includes CSWS_JAVA (Tomcat), Perl for OpenVMS and CSWS_PERL (mod_Perl),
and CSWS_PHP (PHP and mod_PHP).
SWS Version 2.1-1 is based on Apache 2.0.52
and is primarily a
bug fix release. Version 2.1 contained
several new
features, including support for suEXEC and mod_dav, and the lifting of the
STREAM_LF restriction present in Version 2.0.
Also available for download is the HP-supported,
customer release version of the Secure
Web Server Version 1.3-1 for OpenVMS Alpha and Integrity
servers.
(Versions 2.1-1 and 1.3-1 run on OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 and 8.2 and higher, and OpenVMS
Integrity servers Version 8.2 and higher.)
Important Support Notice OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 and OpenVMS Version 8.2
(Alpha and Integrity servers) are the last releases
on which the Secure Web Server Version 1.3-* is supported. OpenVMS Alpha
Version 7.3-2 is the last release on which SWS Version 2.0 is supported.
The functional replacement for SWS Version 1.3-* and SWS Version 2.0 is SWS
Version 2.1 and higher. All future new
features and enhancements to SWS will be provided beginning with SWS Version 2.1,
which is based on the Apache 2.0.* open source code base.
SWS Version 1.3-* and SWS Version 2.0 will be supported while OpenVMS
Alpha Version 7.3-2 is in Prior Version Support (PVS) status, and SWS
Version 1.3-* will be supported as long as OpenVMS Version 8.2 is supported.
Support for these SWS versions will include remedial fixes and security
fixes as deemed appropriate.

The Server Web Server is a powerful, flexible, HTTP/1.1 compliant web
server that includes Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
through mod_ssl and OpenSSL. SSL provides privacy
through encryption, server authentication, and
message integrity.
The Secure Web Server for OpenVMS
is based on Apache, the world's most widely
deployed web (HTTP) server - millions
of Internet servers are powered by Apache.
OpenVMS users, familiar with Apache on other
platforms, can now take advantage of the resources
of Apache's open-source software development
community to run a Web server that enjoys an
unparalleled level of testing and deployment.

Version 1.3-1 of the Secure Web Server
is based on the Version 1.3.26 release from
the Apache Software
Foundation. Version 2.1 is based on Apache 2.0.52.
